Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Arduino Shield Preorder Survey ended and an update on the availability

I ended the preorder survey, since I think the response I got from the Octopus Survey was amazing. Spending a little time with Numbers, I created this chart to give you an impression where the preorders came from:

I had to kick some preorders out, since there was no personal data added. I don’t wanted to use this Info to spam you, but to get an impression, where the demand comes from and send you a personal email, once the Shield is available and thank you for the participation in the survey. This will follow soon!

I’m still in the phase of getting an estimate on the production costs. Since I don’t want to open a web shop on my own and handle the shipping myself, I’m currently talking to the guys at Seeedstudio to get the shield manufactured, tested and available in their webshop. So if everything goes well, I hope they will manufacture the BLE-Shield and  add it to their shop for order. Hope the board will not get too expensive in the end.

Sorry for the delay!

Seedstudio is a great choice, already got a lot of stuff from them and always had good service and quality.

Congrats on the Kickstarter success btw, got in on that too (posted a few comments there 😉 Well, here’s to the success of BLE!

    Hey!

I am really interested in using the BLE shield! I looked at seedstudio but couldn’t find it yet. Can you say something about the release date? Or is there another way to buy the shield?
I also need to know if you offer a SDK to connect to the shield and receive data in a custom iPad3 application. You offer the iPhone App to connect to the shield, but I want to write an app which automatically connects to the arduino and starts receiving data via bluetooth.

    Best regards!

      Hello Alexander,
the shield is not yet available for purchase. I’m Very sorry for that, but I want to provide a solid solution and not a quick overnight hack to my customers.

So I will do a beta run of 10 devices first.

No I will not provide an SDK to programm apps using the BLE Shield. Apple is providing a Framework for that which is called CoreBluetooth. You can do whatever you’d like in your app. BLExplr is a generic tool to browse and test BLE peripherals.

      Where are you located?

      Cheers,
      Michael.
