BLE-Shield v3.0.0 and BLE-Shield v3.0.0 LR (Long Range)

Hello everyone,

Initially I wanted to show the BLE-Shield v3.0.0 and the BLE-Shield v3.0.0 LR (Long Range) at Maker Faire Rome 2014, but they didn’t make it in time for a presentation in rome.

Now I was able to solder the BLE113 and BLE121LR module using a simple hot plate successfully. Since both modules are equipped with 256kb flash, there is no need for additional SPI Flash memory chips or a USB port to support upgrading the firmware. That’s what the intention of the new shields. Reduce the necessary parts and still provide as much flexibility for the end user. Using this setup, simple firmware updates can be easily done using my BLExplr App.

See the initial v0.1 revisions of the shields are illustrated in the picture below. Stay tuned for updates regarding progress and availability.

Thanks for your interest in my products,

    Hi Michael!

    Great work!
Thank you a lot for sharing.

Do you have a date to start selling this new version?
    Will it be again at

And also, will you make an XBEE form factor version for both?

no there is no selling date yet, but if I will sell it of course I will do it via Seeedstudio.
Maybe an XBee form factor version will be available for the BLE113 based one but not the BLE121LR due to the ground pane recommendations which cannot be met on an XBee form factor sized PCB.

        Thank you for your response.

Well, whenever you start selling this, I’ll buy it for SURE (also the XBEE form factor)…

I hope you don’t take too long to start producing this,
Maybe another campaign at Kickstarter would help.

Also, maybe you should consider to sell your products at your webpage, via Paypal.

Has the long range shield been completed, or have you discontinued work on that project? I see you have at least a prototype board completed.
